The Great Spirit River Freeway

The Great Spirit River Freeway

When even the best
Isn’t good enough
Dear GOD
Thank you for my suffering
Let’s see if we can use it for fuel
To muscle up in my pink Cadillac

I sold the Jaguar for a song
Became an atheistic materialistic monolith
In all the nicest ways
Like a cadet marching to the heartbeat
Of the one and only soft parade
Through the canyon cosmos
Up the down magic mountain chasm
For a song
Snaked the great spirit river freeway
What’s indulgent in flowers
Is quite ordinarily paid for in tears
Not as punishment
But as a question of balance
